An all-around talent on Broadway, film and television from the 1920s to the 60s, Bert Lahr is most well-known for his role as the Cowardly Lion in "The Wizard of Oz."

You won’t need to go over the rainbow for a piece of Hollywood history as his home, also previously owned by Betty Grable and Paul McCartney, is now on the market.

Lahr bought the New England-style home in 1941. The 1.3-acre property is the perfect enclave for those who crave east coast charm.

The house was decorated by Ralph Lauren to emulate a Connecticut-Hamptons estate to accentuate the best architectural features such as wood beams, dark stained hardwood flooring and massive openings in the fireplaces. It’s a lucky find as the large fireplaces have been grandfathered into current build codes that prohibit such installations.

The private estate consists of the main house, full sized guesthouse, pool and tennis court, all with lushly landscaped grounds. The main house offers seven bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, media room with wet bar and wine cellar with an attached 3-car garage.

The guesthouse has a separate street entrance with two bedrooms and three baths and an attached 2-car garage. The property has many outdoor terraces, an outdoor kitchen, and a new structure that houses a two-lane vintage-style bowling alley, game room, wet bar and powder room.

The Hollywood home of the Cowardly Lion and other notable stars is now on the market. Listed for sale at $25.58 million, the estate can also be leased for $100,000 a month. Now that’s worth roaring over.
